Layla was a treasured kitty who passed away at the early age of 8. It doesn't seem fair that an animal one is so bonded to has a defect that prevents them from spending their full lifespan with you, particularly when that one is so special. Some pets are irreplaceable similar to that one love of your life. Layla was one of those.

It was two years ago that we had to say goodbye to my sweetest of pups. This past weekend my husband I spent this weekend in Newport, Oregon, a place we have been many times. It was bittersweet watching happy dogs rolling in the sand, running and playing.. It brought back loving memories of her happy face and wagging tail.

This acrylic on an 8 x 10" canvas typifies Rozi who would calmly watch the activity around her. In her later years she shunned dogs she didn't know, preferring her human companions. Late afternoons on the beach are gorgeous along the Oregon coast. That day the late warm light set Rozi aglow against a cool wet beach.

In the previous blog the early stages of Sadie's painting were posted. My cousin only had a few photos of her and only one good one which was taken with a flash and cut off the bottom of her legs. The original background in the photo was quite dark due to using a flash. Since the last posting the background sky and reflected water have been lightened and the foreground filled in.

Creating a successful painting, both esthetically and accurately, is satisfying but bringing her back to life for him is the greatest pleasure of all.

The cover painting for a status and distribution bird book was finished a few days ago.. Once the book is published I will be able to share images of the painting.
